Sustainable Rural Development in Paraitinga River Basin, São Paulo – Integrated analysis of land use and of ecosystem services incorporation into regional policies formulation – Scenarios of livestock intensification and impacts on services N. 2
The objective of the second report was the development of land use scenarios based on potential livestock intensification in Paraitinga River Basin and, consequently, the impacts on biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration and provision of environmental services, considering the local context and the point of view of rural producers. In order to do this, the potential of pasture support capacity in different municipalities of the basin was evaluated, and scenarios for the increase of potential productivity were developed. Based on that, the area available for other land uses, such as agriculture and forestry restoration projects, was calculated. The study also provided an analysis of the consequences of productivity increase, considering the potential conflicts caused by competition for land in the basin.
