IIS participates in the COP 16 on Biodiversity in Cali, Colombi

The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which will take place in Cali, Colombia, will be a decisive moment for the conservation and sustainable use of global biodiversity. This COP will be the first major meeting following the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

Among the key topics of COP 16 is the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), which are essential to ensure that global commitments translate into concrete actions at the local and national levels. Brazil will play a crucial role in this discussion, and there is high anticipation around its presentation. Furthermore, the conference will debate the fair sharing of benefits arising from the use of biodiversity, with particular emphasis on Digital Sequence Information (DSI), raising important questions about resource sharing between countries. Another focus will be resource mobilization, especially the creation of robust financial mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the Global Framework’s goals.

The IIS will be represented by Rafael Loyola, Executive Director, Juliana M. de Almeida Rocha, Technical-Scientific Manager, and Bruna Pavani, Senior Researcher. Our representatives will participate in the following initiatives during the event:
